Desmond Tutu was born in Klerksdorp, South Africa, on the 7th of October, 1931. He is now 90 years old!
His schooling was at King's College, where he studied theology. He has taught at the universities of Botswana, Lesotho and Swaziland
He became first a Cleric, Priest, Bishop and Archbishop in his time at the church, becoming the first Black South African to reach any of those positions. He became Archbishop in Cape Town
He started to organize and participate in peaceful protests against Apartheid, and started making connections with other powerful leaders worldwide. The way he met South Africa's most powerful leader, Mandela, was through defending him in court.

For decades, he led protests, made connections with leaders and powerful people outside the nation, and fought for the equality that he believed was fair. And for his efforts in the South African Civil War, he was awarded the 1984 Nobel Peace Prize!
He now lives happily in retirement with his 4 children, and wife Nomalizo.
